Preliminary Exercise 9: Practicing Camerawork: Shot Sizes, Camera Angles, Framing, and Camera Composition Day 2

 U'Nika Smith

12/21/23

period 7

A filming location is a place where some or all of a film or television series is made, in addition to or instead of employing sets created on a movie studio backlot or soundstage.

Cinematography, the art and technique of motion-picture photography. It involves such techniques as the overall arrangement of a scene; the lighting of the set or setting; the choice of cameras, lenses, filters, and film stock; the camera angle and movements; and the addition of any special effects.

No one was responsible for this task because nobody acknowledged the assignment at all other than myself which was no progress. I do not know who was responsible for camerawork on a film's production.

A famous noteworthy person I can talk about is Johnny Depp. He is an American actor and musician, the recipient of multiple accolades, including a Golden Globe Award as well as nominations for three Academy Awards and two BAFTA awards. Johnny Depp was in the movies Pirates of the Caribbean and Alice in the Wonderland.

Reflection

After outlining eight shots using a storyboard, students will apply camerawork skills such shot sizes, camera angles, framing, and composition. They will get practice in creating brief descriptions, either individual or chronological, and in recording scenes to illustrate their concepts. They will include directors, writers, performers, set designers, storyboard artists, and camera operators.

We did not switch roles during the assignment. No, we did not accomplish the goal of this assignment. The 2 team members were asked by the teacher to sketch storyboard's 3 and 4. They used a pencil for the sketch. I do not know what references they've used.

Preliminary Exercise 8: Practicing Camerawork: Shot Sizes, Camera Angles, Framing, and Camera Composition Day 1

Camerawork captures the setting for the film. The overall feeling of it. It's about creative visuals that reinforce a narrative and give the audience an emotional experience. The 4 major categories I'd consider when planning camera shots: Long shot, medium shot, close up shot, and point of view shot.

The definitions:

The amount of the scene or topic that is visible in a particular frame of a picture, film, or animation is the shot size. Ex. Full Shot

The exact point where the video or movie camera is positioned to capture a shot is a camera angle. Ex. Close up

The arrangement of the subjects in your photographs is known as camera framing. Ex. Wide shot

The way visual elements are arranged within a camera frame is known as composition. Ex. Symmetry

Take Will Smith for an example. Will Smith has been in a lot of movies like Aladdin and Spies in Disguise. He has received an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, a BAFTA Award, and four Grammy Awards.

Why do you and your team have to develop camerawork skills to create your film?

Because it would be our responsibility for how the film will look and the aspects throughout the film. The right choice of camera movement can help to create a particular mood or convey a specific message to the audience.

No, we did not accomplish the goal for this assignment because of the lack of effort to the other team member of helping with the photos for the assignment. It was difficult to do on my own from not knowing the full storyline I did not create. In short, they did nothing other than making a made-up storyline.

Preliminary Exercise 7: Storyboarding Camerawork: Shot Sizes, Camera angles, Framing and Camera Composition Post 1: Day 2

 U'Nika Smith

12/13/23

period 7

In the storyboards, I needed to create a chronological story in a simple conduct of art. Outlining the objectives and annualize the scrips for each scene. The direct information on the page knowing what's happening in the story for sketching detail to detail. Then after you can finalize the product you've made and see the results. The skills you would need would be strong visuals and know how to put a story together. The objective of sheet #3-4 is to better understand or grasp the attention of the important aspects of the events happening in the story from a big jump to certain scenes.

The categories of camerawork techniques I will be executing in this assignment will be:
Shot Sizes- Establishing Shot, Wide Shot, Full shot, Master, Medium-Close up, Medium Shot, Master Shot
Camera Angles- Knee-level angle, Over the Shoulder angle, Dutch Angle, High Angle, Low Angle, Overhead Angle,
Framing- Single Shot, Two Shot, Close Up Shot, Insert Shot, One Shot, Crowd Shot,
Composition- Symmetrical, Asymmetrical, Rules of Shot,

Reflection

The techniques used for manufacturing that result in media products will be taught to students, along with how and why media texts are created in the film industry. In order to produce important camerawork shots for the exercise, they will also use storyboard sheets to plan shots.
I learned how to properly make a storyboard. I would say it is easy as long as you know what you are doing but would be difficult if you are not frequent or know how to create a concept of your own. I did accomplish the goal of the assignment. Jada B and I have created the sketches so far and agreed on them. We have used YouTube, Google image references, notes, and pencil to do the work.

Preliminary Exercise 10: Camera Movement Techniques Organizer

period 7

Camera Movement is a technique used in film that helps change the frame or prospective through the movement of the camera. It adds impact, pace & energy that goes into filmmaking. Draws more action that goes into place.

The 4 ways a camera can move to capture a shot is:

Up and Down

left to right.

in and out

and Diagonally

Camera Movement creates a sort of feeling or tension on the audience.

And in this assignment, the goal is to understand and be fully aware of how camera moment's work and the concepts associated with it.

Reflection

I was introduced to camera movement through movies I've watched in the past.  The media product we created was fiction. Though my teammate didn't help on this assignment, I used Google and Bing for research and images on the school's laptop. And typed, edit, and finished on PowerPoint.

Preliminary Exercise 13: Introduction to Sound in Film (Be a Sound Engineer)

 U'Nika Smith

12/12/23

period 7

Movie audio includes soundtracks, ambient noise, sound effects, music, and/or background noise. Every movie uses sound in some kind to make the viewing experience more enjoyable.

Sound in a film that provides background information and establishes the appropriate mood or theme for each moment inspires the intended response from the viewer, who might get confused at certain scenes.

Sound can provide a deeper understanding of the protagonists and their causes by emphasizing the feelings and behaviors that are portrayed on screen.

Sound supports the atmosphere of the film from the ideal mood or subject for each scene and provides context. And lastly, sound can create a sort of feeling that corresponds to the rhythm or adrenaline of what is displayed. For example - An epic fight scene with upbeat music.

Preliminary Exercise 11: Camera Movement Storyboard

Preliminary Exercise 11: Camera Movement Storyboard period 7

This assignment is to study the concepts of camera movement and apply action lines, mise en scene features, and camerawork to plan frames.
We drew arrows and wrote the camera's movement in the planned frames. Directors and filmmakers can change the audience's perspective without cutting by using camera movement.
I used my notes and other papers of the definitions of camera angles and camerawork storyboarding as my resources to complete this assignment.
In our team, our responsibility is to do our part and work together to complete the assignments given to us.
Creating a storyboard is important because it makes production of the film easier. It's like a guide you made up from basic sketches that plans out the process of making the film and scenes for what they would look like but instead making it in a better quality when creating the film.
